Graham, Derek and Terry are back for another edition of Whom Pods Destroy – A Star Trek discussion podcast.

In this episode we focus on a classic from the first season of Star Trek – The Original Series: The Galileo Seven. This episode is one of the cornerstones in what we would now characterise as Mr Spock’s story arc. However, there is a lot more to take away from this: the role of Mr Boma, played by the brilliant Don Marshal and the existence, or otherwise, of Commissioner Ferris.

Join us for another episode of Whom Pods Destroy – A Star Trek discussion podcast.

On this edition Terry, Graham and Derek discuss the Original Series episode, The Doomsday Machine. This is the story of Commodore Matt Decker who, wracked with guilt at having lost the entire crew of his ship the USS Constellation to an horrific alien doomsday weapon is prepared to risk the lives of the Enterprise and prepared to sacrifice his own in order to atone for perceived error in judgment.

This episode is a contemporary warning abut the perils of weapons of mass destruction but also ripples thought the Star Trek franchise with links to Star Trek: The Motion Picture and, according to Graham at least, Star Trek II: The Wrath Of Khan.

In the latest episode of Whom Pods Destroy Derek, Graham and Terry rejoice in the glory that is Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home. This is a film that is close to the heart of both Graham and Terry who consider it to be the best, most well rounded, of all the Star Trek films. Better even that Wrath Of Khan.

In terms of aesthetic, A Piece Of The Action and Patterns Of Force are two of the most iconic episodes of Star Trek: The Original Series but are they any good?

In this episode of Whom Pods Destroy Derek, Terry and Graham talk about these two second season episodes. We speculate as to what, if anything, they were trying to say culturally and politically. We also examine Patterns Of Force’s very specific contribution to fan fiction.

kirkandkor3After our broad discussion on Klingons from the original series of Star Trek in Episode 5, we look at two classic Klingon TOS episodes: Errand of Mercy and Day of the Dove.

Errand of Mercy is one of our favourite episodes of TOS and we examine the rich plot that would probably fill an entire story arc if it were a modern TV show. We also talk about the Organians and speculate as to the nature of Kirk’s relationship with Kor.

Being a third season episode we were a little more cautious about Day of the Dove. However, we were more than pleasantly surprise by this episode and found much that relates to the times that we live in now.

Join Terry, Derek and Graham on an epic journey through the Klingons of Star Trek The Original Series and subsequent movies.

The guys discuss the three big Klingon characters of TOS: Kor, Kang & Koloth and compare them to their ridged compatriots in the movies such as Kruge, Gorkon, Chang and co. They ask if there is any connections with post TOS Klingons and if the stories told featuring these Klingons resonate today. The conversation also diverts to a quick chat on the Klingon D7 ships and the Italian space opera Star Crash.
